For quite a while now I have been searching for a new job. I currently work at a fast food chain specializing in burritos which we will call Slavedoves and have been very unhappy as of recently. Our corporate office has forced upon us a labor crunch therefore cutting my hours by one shift. Now as a full time college student in debt up to her eyeballs, I cannot afford to be cut to below full time hours and still expect to pay for rent, phone bill, medical bills, tuition and the ever growing money consumption I call my beauty collection. Thus the search for a new job has become overdue.
I am currently living in my hometown, back from college for the summer and unable to determine if I would like to transfer schools this coming semester. Back in my old college town, about three months ago, I applied for the position of Bikini's Girl and got turned down because of a massive ribcage tattoo depicting the skyline of my beloved city stretching down half my body. Bikini's Sports Bar and Grill are not fond of tattoos just as any chain of the same commercial ideals (barely there clothing on hot, young girls) aren't. However, a new location as opened up in the heart of my hometown's downtown and I figured "What better place to be turned down because of a tattoo than in the actual city of said tattoo?" I suppose in less words, what do I have to lose?
So I went online and poked my way through the Bikini's website to determine if I still did actually want to work there. Slaving through pictures and pictures of half naked girls really made me second guess myself. Did I really want to be working in a place where body and face were the key promotional factors instead of good food and excellent service? While working at Slavedoves I get hit on constantly. We do bring in a much more eclectic crowd, for the record, but day after day of having to laugh at the same jokes old men pass at you and being constantly stared at by high school boys as if you are the most gorgeous thing one has ever seen can weigh heavily on your mood by the end of a shift. But at the same time, I endure that kind of treatment day in and day out at my current place of work and I still show up the next day. You get used to that sort of thing and really figure out what works for certain situations/people. And after googling a few searches to help me better prepare for a job as a half naked waitress, I came across The Hooters Girl, read a few entries and decided to go through with a Bikini's application after all. I can handle this job, milk it even. Yesterday I rolled a $7 burrito for a young man and when I rang it up he put a $6 tip on his credit card ticket. All I had to do was smile at him.
So a couple days ago, I went down to the new location, met with a young woman I'll call Blue and filled out an application. She proceeded to have me change into a Bikini top and take photographs to document my physical features. Blue was very straight forward in letting me know that my tattoo would be the deciding factor in my employment because with tattoos it is not up to the hiring manager, it is decided by the big guys upstairs. In fact, Blue stated, if it weren't for the skyscrapers inked across my ribs she would hire me on the spot. However, she also said she liked my look a lot and would talk to her boss, try to get him to overlook the tattoo and give me call either that day or the next. So, with doubts in place, I thanked her for the opportunity and went on my way. I didn't receive a call that night. Nor the next morning. It wasn't until later in the day did Blue text me and let me know I got the job. She'd be scheduling training for some time next week and would let me know more details as soon as possible.
Which brings us to the very present, I'm am still awaiting training details and after reading through The Hooters Girl I've decided to start my own blogging adventure into what can only be a daily, incorrect judgement of character, but an upgrade to my paycheck.
